Say Goodbye to Your Eyeglasses
We love our specs at Total Vision Carlsbad Plaza, but we also love giving you options! If you are looking for a solution beyond contact lenses and eyeglasses, laser eye surgery may be the next step.
LASIK is a common eye procedure, often used to help correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. We would love to consult with you about LASIK and other available options for laser eye surgery.
However, not all patients are candidates for laser eye surgery, and there are some factors to consider. The best option is to contact our team to discuss the options that are right for you. We can help determine the best, most effective treatment for your prescription.
Consultations & Co-Management
What Happens During a Consultation?
Consultations are fully comprehensive eye exams orientated to see if laser eye surgery is right for you and your needs.
Even if your eyes are a healthy candidate for laser eye surgery, the procedure does not guarantee 20/20 vision, and you may still need prescription lenses after your surgery. However, many patients do report that they experience 20/20 or 20/40 vision without eyewear after surgery.
During the exam, we will look for any eye conditions that could affect your eyes’ candidacy, including:
- Dry eyes
- Frequent eye infections
- Eye disease
- Pre-existing conditions like diabetes
- Overly large pupils
Following the consultation, we can refer you to an ophthalmologist to perform the surgery.
What Is Co-Management?
We co-manage the recovery process for each of our patients. After your surgery, we will schedule a series of follow-up appointments to ensure your eyes are healing properly.
It is normal to experience some side effects, and we’ll monitor these closely to ensure they don’t become a larger problem. Some of these can include:
- Glare
- Dry eyes
- Light sensitivity
- Blurry vision
- Discomfort
If your symptoms become more severe, please contact us immediately.
What Is LASIK Eye Surgery?
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) eye surgery, is by far one of the most commonly performed eye surgeries in North America.
During the procedure, an ophthalmologist uses numbing drops to prepare your eyes for surgery before making a very small incision in the outermost layer of your cornea. This incision creates a thin “flap” that your ophthalmologist will fold over on a hinge to get access to your underlying corneal tissue. They will then reshape the corneal tissue to your desired prescription using an excimer laser.
